In Romans, chapter 1, the Apostle Paul describes the progression of the depravity of mankind, from creation to the present time he wrote it. Depravity that has continued to progress to today's world.
The following verses summarize how far it can go in some people.
[Romans 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
1:29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
1:30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
1:31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
1:32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.]
Our illustration today is the horrific assault and slaughter of people at this 'Sweet 16 birthday party' in Dadeville, Alabama - April, 2023.
This was a departure from our usual mass shootings, generally, statistically, performed by an individual white male, of distorted mind and reality.
In this case, the six (possibly seven) suspects are all black, all working together with planned intent. All carrying concealed handguns.
The ages of the known perpetrators are: 20,20, 19, 17, 16, 15.
We don't know yet, but likely from some kind of retribution for some 'wrong' done to one or more of the perpetrators.
In other words, six minds together with planned intent to murder and maim as many people as possible. People they know generally and specifically.
No conscience. [Romans 1:28 .... reprobate mind]
It's this lack of conscience, in shooters who are white or black, individual or in teams, that is insurmountable as far as anyone's ability to reason with, or appeal to.
A conscience in which empathy and conviction simply do not exist.
THIS JUST IN: As this article was being prepared, a news article came through. It was about a shooting in Texas. A man shooting rifle rounds in his back yard was asked to stop by the neighbors. The guy walked over to his neighbors' house, walked in and killed 5 of 10 people in the house.
Including an eight year old child.
A conscience seared with a hot iron. A conscience gone.
It's those people who are front and center in our biggest threats to Americans' safety. Meaning that it is up to Americans to determine how to stop them.
Because clearly our government at any level is incapable of doing so.
Clearly, anti-gun hysteria and focus is a barrier to properly securing any crowded venue, with the same tools in the hands of law abiding citizens, that murderous criminals use with impunity.
It's the reason that every time we hear about a mass shooting, the anti-gun mantra always focuses on getting rid of guns, rather than getting rid of the criminal shooters.
And here we are going around in the same circles we've been going around in for decades, with the problem only getting worse.
I live in a state where guns can be purchased legally, either from FFL dealers, or from individuals. Those guns can be carried with or without a license.
As a gun owner, practiced and capable with handguns, practiced and capable with concealed carry, what is my responsibility in protecting those around me, should a shooting break out (which it clearly can in any state, any location)?
What about those who have bought guns over the last few years, concerned about their personal safety? People who since initially trying out, and getting a bit of instruction, have never gone further, training, practicing, or carrying their gun.
How much good will they be in protectiing themselves, their families, or innocent bystanders, if a shooting breaks out where they are?
With no gun. Because they haven't bothered to learn it or carry it.
What about you? If you are out in a crowded place, where a shooter begins randomly firing at people, maiming and killing?
Without your gun, how much use would you be to yourself, your family, your friends, innocent bystanders?
Without your gun, would you be able to escape? Would you be able to lead your family to safety with the possibility of fighting back if you had to?
Would you be able to lead others to safety, protecting them with your firearm?
No. You'd be useless. You'd have to hide if possible. Or shrink into a corner in fear. Or put on a brave face while you died at the hands of a demented killer. And possibly while you watched your family, friends and bystanders die.
Without your gun.
IT'S THIS EASY!
Your gun. A holster. A couple boxes of ammo. A couple of targets. Some practice handling, shooting, holstering a couple times per month.
Is all it takes to give you, and anyone around you a fighting chance, should you ever be in a location where a monster begins shooting to kill.
But you have to have your gun with you, and be ready to use it.
Pretty simple for what can otherwise be a deadly choice.
THE BOTTOM LINE:
Mass Shootings. If they're going to be effectively stopped, or prevented from ever starting, if people can be led to safety, it's up to us.
Time to stop acting like it's everybody else's job.
We're the front line.
If we have our gun.
